We used to give 100% of our charity/tithe budget to the church, but about 10 years ago we diversified to support multiple organizations, including our church.
We also keep a portion of this money in a “bucket” for non-charitable community giving such as GoFundMe campaigns or helping a friend fix a car or buying groceries for a neighbor—basically situations where there is need but not a tax deduction. This is a practice I picked up after attending a workshop on equitable giving practices.
Not the clipboards 😭 my problem is how hard it is to cancel them sometimes. Like I’ll give for a month or two but when I go to cancel it’s painful. I get it, consistency it’s important, but feels shady
Great topic! tend to give sporadically in emotional lump sums or will suddenly want to give a few dollars to like 4-5 different people that are asking for $ on the street. good inspiration to actually break down the budget look at % of donation vs unnecessary spending and a mix of well researched international & local orgs so it could be more effective.
First of all, I love YNAB. 😍

Nice! Good to hear that an equitable giving expert confirms this practice!
Chuggers! Delightful! Giving money away is a great joy…except to the chuggers.
I like hearing how you think about these things... and lol at "chuggers"!
Thanks, Liz!

Right? There needs to be a one-click cancel like with streaming!
honestly I'd respect that more and be more inclined to sign up

I think this is a lot of us! It's great to be compassionate and it's also good to be intentional.
