Evangelicals may not be dumb, but they are like sheep when it comes to authority figures.. Thanks for pointing out Doug Wilson and Christ Church. Learning more about how "weird" evangelicals could be.
I always appreciate when articles about Christian Nationalism talk about Christ Church in Moscow! I went to school there, and what the church was trying to accomplish in that community was terrifying.
Oh man, I'd love to hear more about this. The podcast is BANANAS, and Sarah Stankorb has covered Moscow a bit, but it feels like the perspective of regular Moscowites is underrepresented.
The scariest thing about it was how innocuous the actual people involved in the businesses/community organizations/etc as a part of the concerted Christ Church takeover plan were. They just seemed like ordinary people, and if you didn’t know they belonged to the church and what they were trying to do, you never would have known anything was wrong. I only knew because I was part of a Facebook page that kept a running list of businesses associated with the church.
It seems really tricky, because I’m sure a lot of them are nice people who think they’re doing good work in the world and don’t see how they are being manipulated, and in turn, trying to control/coerce others

There's something in the belief system that seems to make people vulnerable to authoritarianism.
Yeah the rhetoric at the RNC was pretty wild, very intentional imagery of him "sacrificing" for the people 🙄
Yikes, right?!?
Well stated and very insightful.
Thanks, Dad <3
