Definitely resonated with this as someone who also grew up in purity culture. Another nasty message perpetuated was a woman’s value is based on how many sexual partners she’s had (and that number should always be one). And don’t ever do anything Jezebel would do. I felt shame for even being curious about it. I knew I couldn’t ask many questions or else I’d get looked at suspiciously.

I like your new framework and what you intend on teaching your son. Gets me wheels turning as I’m expecting my first child…I don’t ever want them to experience what I felt growing up.

You're so right about those nasty messages--there are so many and they're so pernicious! Congratulations on your pregnancy! Parenting is definitely a big opportunity to examine what beliefs you were handed and what you'd like to pass on. May this next generation be healthier than we are.

Being happy where I am,if I "unlearn" anything, that may change. If mandatory (reversible) vasectomies were required at birth (to be reversed, when all agree) this would be a mute discourse. Given that Christianity (by current definitions) begins with a rape, what else could you expect. Convincing a preacher that you really do not care what they believe.
